Interim Reports

Your child will take home their Interim Report tomorrow. This report gives you an indication of your child's early Personal Development and Behaviour at school. It gives you an idea about how your child has settled into their new classroom routines, their ability to listen to and follow instructions and complete work within a designated time to an acceptable standard. Other items include classroom and playground behaviour, consideration for others and perseverance.

During Term Two, on the 27 or 28 May, you will have the opportunity to come in for a formal three-way (parent/student/teacher) interview to discuss your child's academic and social progress. If you have any concerns before then please contact your child's teacher. 

At the end of Term Two, you will receive your child's Academic and Personal and Social Capabilities Report.

Child Safety 

The recent media reports of the trial and conviction of Cardinal Pell in Melbourne have been very disturbing. As the Principal of St Mary's, I am mindful of those who have suffered abuse in the past and how these reports will affect them. Every support will be offered to staff and members of our community who are suffering.

I wish to assure you all that at St Mary's we provide the safest possible environment for all our students and staff. The safety and welfare of students remain our absolute top priority. The child safety approaches administered by our dedicated teachers are embedded in our school's governance, policy, procedures, practice and culture. It is a key responsibility for everyone who works or volunteers in Catholic education.

Each member of our staff at St Mary's undertakes training on a regular basis in areas of child protection such as reportable conduct, mandatory reporting, privacy and confidentiality, detecting and responding to trauma and how to identify signs of harm and facilitate child-friendly ways for children to express their views, participate in decision making and raise their concerns.

The creation this year of the Child Safe Advocate role, filled by Mrs Sally Croker, supports our school and consolidates our commitment to child safety and protection from all sources of abuse. You can be assured that our commitment to child safety in every aspect of school life will continue.

Lent

During LENT we are called to take a good hard look at ourselves… How are we living our lives? Are we really trying to be like Jesus? Do we practise… compassion, mercy, Justice, humility, forgiveness, prayerfulness?  

We are asked to practise three things during Lent to get us back on track

1. PRAYING – spend some quality time with God. Pray the ‘Our Father’ or ‘Hail Mary’ really thinking about the words in the prayer; have a conversation with God; reflect on the Scriptures; or simply sit in a quiet place and BE with God. Take time to just BE in God’s presence, experience His love and receive His blessing by attending Mass. There are many websites dedicated to daily prayer and meditation. Sign up for free and receive daily emails. A couple of great ones are:

        Beginning next week, each Monday morning at 9am during Lent, there will be a whole school Lenten Prayer. All are welcome to join us for this.

2. FASTING – fast from those things that keep us from being close to God and from being the best person we can be (TV, computer, overindulgence, gossiping, selfishness. I can think of a multitude of things I could fast from).
3. ALMSGIVING – Reach out to help the poor - support Project Compassion; look for works of love and mercy you can do every day; go out of your comfort zone, go over and beyond to spread Jesus’ message of hope, love and joy.

Mini Vinnies 

All of our Year 6 students have signed up for the St Mary’s Mini Vinnies team. They will be working hard for the remainder of the term to increase our school community’s commitment to COMPASSION. Part of this will involve raising money for ‘the least of our brothers and sisters’.

Dyspraxia is when a person has difficulties with motor coordination. It affects people’s fine and gross motor skills. Dyspraxia affects people in different way. People with dyspraxia can also experience difficulties with their memory, planning, organizing and carrying out movements in the right order. It can affect articulation and speech and perception in some people.

Morning Club

Monday to Friday from 8.00-8.40am. All students are welcome.

Maths Club

Tuesday afternoons from 3.15pm-4.00pm. Students from Years 2-6 are welcome.

The Carnival involves all students from Kindergarten to Year 6.

We are looking for parent volunteers who may be able to assist on checkpoints for an hour or two.

Primary Sport- Canberra/Goulburn Archdiocese

This year there is a new format for registration of students at Diocesan and Archdiocesan level and for individual nominations for Sports, eg. Hockey, Cricket etc.

The website is up and running and all trial nominations for Archdiocese Representative sports trial must be completed by the parents/carers by the due date advertised on the website.
