Mufti Day
Tomorrow, Friday 2 August, we will be holding a 'Favourite Sport or Sporting Team' Mufti day to support Isabelle Galland and Bella Croker's State hockey trip. Students may come to school out of uniform and dressed in their favourite sporty clothes, for a gold coin donation.
It has been decided by the school executive staff that this will be an event we organise for all students facing the large costs involved with state representative sport.
Peer Support - Resilience
This term Year 6 will be running Peer Support Groups from Weeks 3-8.
Peer Support is a program that empowers students with practical skills and strategies to positively navigate life and relationships. This term the children will be participating in activities that focus on resilience during their peer support sessions and personal development classes. Resilience is a vital skill that enables people to recover quickly from difficulties.
Annual Satisfaction Survey
An annual satisfaction survey of parents, students and staff will be conducted on behalf of all Catholic schools in the Diocese this term. The surveys are designed to gather feedback from parents, staff and students about our school and will be used to inform school improvement. Responses are confidential and individuals can not be identified.

Public Speaking
Our primary students are now working on their speeches for our 2019 Public Speaking Competition.
The class topics are as follows;
Year 3 – Best Friends - 2 minutes
Year 4 – Good Advice - 2 minutes
Year 5 – Don't Try This - 3 minutes
Year 6 – The View from the Top - 3 minutes
Students in Years 3-6 will present their speeches to their class over the next few weeks. Five students from each class will be selected to present at our school competition on Wednesday 7 August.
Following on from this, two students from each class are selected to represent the school at the Northern Region Public Speaking Competition, to be held on Wednesday 14 August at St Mary’s. This will commence with morning tea at 10am, followed by the competition at 10.30am for Years 3 and 5 and 11.15am for Years 4 and 6.
The Archdiocesan Public Speaking Competition will be held on 20 September at St Joseph's in Boorowa.
Volunteers
At St Mary's we are always grateful to our volunteers who come in to listen to reading, administer our intervention programs, garden and work in our tuckshop. If you'd like to volunteer, in any capacity, please contact Belinda.
We continue to focus on our school value of RESPECT.
On Monday, Year 3 helped us to reflect on what respect looks like …
- Respect for God. God is the creator of all life who loves us into being and yearns for us to open ourselves up to His love. What greater respect can we show than giving time to the Lord
- Respect for ourselves. We are all made in the image of God. Each of us is a unique and precious gift to the world. And each of us is a much loved son or daughter of our Father. Thus we should respect ourselves. How? By loving and valuing ourselves even when we fail and by looking after ourselves.
- Respect for others. We are all children of God, brothers and sisters of the one human family. God asks us to ‘LOVE ONE ANOTHER. Let us treat others as we would have them treat us.
Next week we celebrate the life of Saint Mary Mackillop (Mary of the Cross,) whose daily life reflected respect for God and neighbour.
SAINT MARY OF THE CROSS MACKILLOP - Feast Day – Thursday 8 August
What is a SAINT?
The Church does not CREATE saints. Human beings make the conscious choice to do that for themselves. In being Christians, we are in fact all called to try to be saintly in our daily lives; to live lives according to God’s commandments to love God and one another.
St Mary Mackillop – our very own Australian saint - did this throughout her life, living by her mottos:
“To live simply, travel lightly and make room for all”
“Never see a need without doing something about it”
Her way of life inspired others to follow in her footsteps. These women became known as the 'Sisters of St Joseph’. Today they can be found making a difference all over the world carrying on Jesus’ mission of reaching out to the poor and needy with love, compassion and faith. In Crookwell we have our very own Sister of St Joseph – Sr Rosemary – who reaches out to those in need.
Mary of the Cross Prayer Celebration
We will give thanks for Mary Mackillop and the Sisters of St Joseph next Thursday with a prayer celebration at 9:10am. All are welcome to join us.
TIPS ON BEHAVIOUR MANAGEMENT
Sue Larkey is well known for her resources/ideas/strategies for children with Autism. Many of her strategies are also useful for children who do not have the ASD label. In her free newsletter she lists signs of sensory processing difficulties and gives tips for calming students. You need to subscribe to receive the newsletter. She also has many free tip sheets for behaviour management, social interaction and communication on her website. There are tip sheets for managing ipads, using visuals, rewards and tokens.

Next Monday 5th August - Ellie McCormack and Marnie McCormack will be traveling to Hunter's Hill to vie for selection in the first ever Girl's Rugby 7's MacKillop team.
As a new initiative NSW PSSA will host a Rugby 7's trial program this year. NSWCPS Polding and MacKillop intend to enter a team of 12 girls for each region
Successful girls will be members of the MacKillop team to compete at: NSW PSSA GALA DAYS IN GIRLS RUGBY – SEVENS FORMAT The Kingsway, St Marys - 16 & 17 September
Social Function
Our Term 3 Social Function, coordinated by our Year 3 families, will be held at the Crookwell RSL Club on Saturday 24 August, with the theme of "Gatsby Night".
Tickets for the night are available from the School Office, the RSL Club as well as some local shops.
Raffle tickets have been sent home with each family yesterday. Tickets are $2 each with the prize being a full butchered lamb. If you would like more raffle tickets, these are available from the School Office.
It's set to be a great night so be sure to put it on your calendar!

If any businesses or families would like to donate prizes for our raffles on Grandparents Day, please contact Rechell Naughton, who has kindly taken on coordination of this event.
Grandparent's Day will be held on 1 November.

Book Week
Book Week is held from 17–23 August. We will celebrate this event on Tuesday 20 August. The theme this year is “Reading is my Secret Power”.
Children are encouraged to come to school dressed as their favourite book character (maybe one with special powers).
A parade will be held at 12.10 pm in the Old Hall.

Hand-knitted wool beanies, pony tail beanies and headbands
A big thank you to Jodie Garnham for organising and Margie Seaman for knitting our new stock of wool beanies, pony tail beanies and headbands which are available from the uniform shop. $5 for the headbands or $10 for the beanies.
Harry's Riding Experience
Harry Price had his first visit to Goulburn RDA at the Rosemont Equestian Centre on Tuesday. Harry thoroughly enjoyed the experience and cannot wait to go back next week. Thank you to Jolene Grove for facilitating this for Harry.

This weekend Mrs Belinda Tarlinton is playing in the NSW Zone Polocrosse Championships at Dunedoo after her selection in the Southern Highlands 1st Women's team. We wish Mrs Tarlinton the very best of luck!
Congratulations
A huge congratulations to Bella Croker who has been selected in the Under 13's NSW Hockey Team to compete at the Australian Carnival in Hobart in October.
Hockey raffle tickets for sale
Issy G and Bella have raffle tickets for sale to help offset their costs to represent in their hockey team later in the year. Tickets are $5 each and can be bought via the school front office.
