Return to School
As you would already be aware the Director of Catholic Education has authorised that all students may return full time (5 days a week) to St Mary’s Primary School beginning on Monday 11 May – Week 3. This is also in line with the NSW Premier’s request to return to face to face teaching from Week 3. If for any reason there is an increase in the safety concerns for the students and staff before May 11, this decision will be reviewed.
To support our move back to face-to-face teaching and our endeavours to keep our school clean, sanitised and as germ-free as possible (as specified in my letter to parents on Monday), we ask that families do their part by strictly complying the social distancing regulations on weekends and after school hours. As a community, by limiting our contact to outside influences, we can strive as a united group to stay safe from the COVID-19 virus.
Next week we look forward to continuing your child's education in a face-to-face manner. Whilst most of our students have done an excellent job completing set remote learning tasks at home (thank you again for this!), the remote learning situation has highlighted for me the importance of student collaboration in learning. The social learning that occurs at school is vitally important. Each day at school students practise the practical skills of negotiation, communication, listening, humour, saying sorry, offering forgiveness and inclusion. Skills that play an important part in our development as a person.
Even though our students are back and it has been acknowledged by the Government and Health Authorities that social distancing regulations can not apply to children in schools, we have to carefully maintain these rules for our visiting adults and staff in schools. Your assistance with this is greatly appreciated.
Morning Club
Next week Morning Club will resume daily from 8am. At this stage, we ask that only families requiring this service to support their work send their children. It will resume for all families when all social distancing regulations are lifted.
Mother's Day
We give thanks for the wonderful Mothers and Grandmothers and all you do for our students. We hope you all have a wonderful Mother's Day on Sunday. Congratulations to our staff members who have become grandparents. Mr O'Kane welcomed Evie and Mrs Dorothea Hewitt welcomed Astrid.
Student Pick Up
The street directly out the front of St Mary’s is a Bus Zone from 8.30am-9.30am and 3.00pm-4.00pm. Please be aware that occasionally parents dropping their children off in the mornings in this bus zone have been fined by the police.
We recommend that in the afternoons if you have come to collect your children by car that you walk with your child to the crossing on Wade Street to cross safely out of the Bus Zone. 
We wish Finn a speedy recovery from his motorbike accident in the holidays. We hope that he mends quickly and is back with us soon.
Enrolling Now
Please spread the word about our School Tours. If you know someone who is interested in learning more about St Mary's or who has a child ready to start Kindergarten in 2021, we welcome their visit. Social distancing regulations will be put in place for our tours.

The School Explorers Program
Next term our preschool friends will be visiting each Friday afternoon to participate in The School Explorers, our school readiness program.
