Tie Dye Club with Mrs. Knight

I established St Mary’s tie dye club this term as just like our students at St. Mary's, tie dye is special and unique. Each student has been gifted a white shirt, which when tie dyed results in unique patterns on the shirt, giving their finished product a distinctive look.

Tie dye is hands on learning, but it also relates to cross curricula subjects such as Art, Maths, and Science. Making vibrant designs out of fabric is a creative and useful method for children to explore and comprehend STEM.

The first step in tie dying is to tie up the fabric. The folds you make in your fabric are mathematical divisions of the fabric designed to produce effects. Children can learn about measuring liquids and the amounts that various containers hold.

Tie dyeing is a traditional art form that encourages children to try something new and follow directions. Tie dye has numerous benefits, it can activate both sides of the brain, which enhances memory, coordination, and focus. It can help with dexterity, patience, and fine motor skills.

Tie dye club allows the students of St Mary’s to create a beautifully unique and colourful shirt that they can wear with pride.

Tie Dye Club has been a huge success with over 60 students signing up from Years 3-6.

I have been amazed at each student’s ability to comprehend the process so quickly to then be able to create their own masterpiece.

I wish every student a happy and safe school holidays.
