STEM Excursion
On the 6th of September, St Mary’s students attended a STEM activity at Crookwell High School. Every class built Solar Buddy Lights to be sent to children around the world that are living in solar poverty and have no light to do their reading or homework. We had the Crookwell High School students help us with the building.
This was followed by an activity to help address bullying.
Here are some opinions some of the classes shared about their sessions.
Yr 6:
Ava said, “I think that it’s important to send these Solar Lights to children that don’t have light in their homes.”
Patrick said, “I enjoyed building the Solar Lights to give to kids living in solar poverty.”
Yr 5:
Alice said, “I enjoyed learning about preventing bullying.”
Ollie said, “I enjoyed building the light for people less fortunate then me.”
Yr 4:
Anna said, “I enjoyed making the solar light and putting the screws in.”
Jacob said, “Working with the year 10 students.”
Yr 3:
Georgia said, “I liked the thought that I am helping people with their education.”
Max said, “ I really liked building the solar buddies and working with year 10."
Yr 2:
Mia said, “I enjoyed working with year 9 and making the light, and also the stop the bullying activity!”
Digby said, “I learned the definition of bullying.”
Yr 1 Green and Gold:
Tilda said, “I enjoyed making the light and working with year 9. We also learnt about bullying and how to stop it.”
Tommy said, “We worked with year 9 and ten and they helped us build the light. I also learnt that bullying is something that happens everyday.”
Kinder:
Georgie said, “I liked working with other classes and the High Schoolers were really nice.”
Harry said, “My favourite thing was when we made the solar buddies, and Isacc and I worked as a team.”
